Abuja – Minister of Education Maruf Tunji Alausa has announced that all Federal Technical Colleges (FTCs) in Nigeria will offer completely free technical education, covering extensive costs as part of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. The comprehensive package includes not just tuition waiver but also boarding, uniforms, textbooks, exercise books, prospectus, ID cards, stationery, medical services, vocational charges, utilities, security, digital learning tools, extra lessons, and insurance – with no fees or hidden charges for students.
“The aim is to guarantee equal access to education and remove financial barriers for Nigerian students,” Alausa stated. He emphasized Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) is a government priority for equipping youth with employable skills to strengthen national progress.
While the government covers core expenses, students in boarding houses are expected to provide personal effects like toiletries, bedding and clothing. The Ministry has instituted monitoring mechanisms and warned against unauthorized payments by college principals. Parents can report any infractions via hotlines 0803 657 6733 and 0803 637 3796, or email tse@education.gov.ng.
Alausa affirmed, “No Nigerian child should be denied access to technical education because of illegal charges. By investing in education today, we are building a stronger, self-reliant Nigeria.”
