Abuja – The Federal Ministry of Youth Development has confirmed receipt of an official communication from the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) dated October 6, 2025, announcing the withdrawal of the registration certificate issued to the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) on October 28, 2020. This action follows a comprehensive investigation into the Council’s affairs revealing prolonged leadership crisis and violations of the NYCN Constitution and the Companies and Allied Matters Act (CAMA) 2020.

“The Corporate Affairs Commission found serial violations of both the NYCN Constitution and provisions of CAMA 2020, particularly Sections 833 and 834, necessitating this decisive action,” the Ministry disclosed in a statement acknowledging the CAC’s statutory powers under Sections 8(1)(c) and 8(1)(d) of CAMA 2020.

Consequent to the withdrawal, CAC has de-recognized all existing claims to leadership, trusteeship, and management within NYCN and constituted an Interim Management Committee (IMC) to oversee the Council’s affairs for one year effective October 6, 2025. “The Commission has constituted an Interim Management Committee to manage the Council’s affairs for a period of one year,” CAC’s correspondence noted.

Speaking on the development, the Federal Ministry of Youth Development affirmed compliance with the regulatory action. “As the supervisory authority over NYCN, we acknowledge the legal authority of the Corporate Affairs Commission under CAMA 2020,” the Ministry stated, urging stakeholders and youth organizations to cooperate with the IMC.

The Ministry emphasized the exercise aims to restore unity, legitimacy, and institutional integrity to NYCN aligning with its founding ideals. “This is aimed at restoring unity, legitimacy, and institutional integrity to the NYCN, in line with its founding ideals,” the statement read.

The 18-year leadership crisis besetting NYCN prompted CAC’s intervention, marking a significant regulatory step amid efforts to reposition Nigeria’s youth organizations for impactful engagement. Stakeholders await outcomes of the IMC’s stewardship amid hopes for renewed focus on youth empowerment and national development.
