President Bola Tinubu met with the newly appointed Service Chiefs at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, their first known meeting since their appointments last week.
The Service Chiefs, led by the new Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, arrived at the Villa at about 3:55 p.m. local time.
The newly appointed Service Chiefs include Major-General W. Shaibu as Chief of Army Staff, Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke as Chief of Air Staff, and Rear Admiral I. Abbas as Chief of Naval Staff, while Major-General E.A.P. Undiendeye retained his position as Chief of Defence Intelligence.
During the meeting, President Tinubu charged the new appointees to justify the confidence reposed in them by enhancing professionalism, vigilance, and comradeship within the Armed Forces.
“The President urged the military leaders to uphold professionalism, strengthen cooperation, and maintain unity as they settle into their new roles,” according to reports.
Details of the meeting have not been made public.
The appointments are part of efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s national security architecture, amidst persistent security challenges across the country.
