NUJ FCT COUNCIL MOURNS THE PASSING OF VETERAN JOURNALIST AND FORMER CHAIRMAN, COMRADE NDAMADU SULE

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT Council, announced with deep sorrow the death of its former Chairman, Comrade Ndamadu Sule, who passed away in the early hours of today, Friday, November 14, 2025, after a protracted illness. He was 74 years old.

Comrade Sule, an erudite journalist and respected union leader, left an indelible mark on the media industry through his dedication, integrity, and unwavering commitment to the advancement of journalism in the Federal Capital Territory and across Nigeria. His remains were laid to rest according to Islamic rites at the Masaka Muslim burial ground.

The late journalist hailed from Bassa Local Government Area of Kogi State and is survived by six children and two wives. In a statement issued by the Secretary of the NUJ, FCT Council, Comrade Jide Oyekunle, the former Chairman was described as “a great pillar of the union and a committed leader.”

During his tenure as Chairman of the NUJ FCT Council from 1991 to 1995, Comrade Sule was known for his accountability, exceptional leadership qualities, passion for press freedom, and tireless advocacy for the welfare and professional development of journalists. He also worked with the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), contributing significantly to the growth of both the union and the broader media landscape.

Speaking on the sad loss, the Chairman of the NUJ, FCT Council, Comrade Grace Ike, said, “His passing is a painful blow to the journalism community. His wisdom, courage, and statesmanship will be greatly missed.”

A condolence register has been opened at the Council Secretariat in Utako, Abuja, and the Council extends its heartfelt condolences to his family, colleagues, and all who were touched by his impactful life.
