The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has dismissed as false a social‑media report that Lieutenant A.M. Yerima was trailed by two unmarked white Hilux vans in Kubwa on Sunday evening, forcing the officer to execute evasive manoeuvres to lose the pursuers. In a statement issued by the command’s spokesperson, Superintendent Josephine Adeh, the police said, “The attention of the FCT Police Command has been drawn to publications circulating on social media alleging an attempted assassination on Lt Ahmed Yerima. The Command wishes to categorically state that no such incident has been reported or recorded anywhere within the Federal Capital Territory.”
The statement continued, “The public is advised to disregard this false information and desist from spreading unverified claims capable of causing unnecessary panic. For the safety of all residents, the Command urges the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the nearest Police Division.” Residents were urged to contact the command’s emergency lines 08032003913 and 08068587311 with any information.
According to a Vanguard newspaper report, the military responded to the alleged trailing by deploying personnel and eight patrol vehicles to the Gado Nasko Road area of Kubwa. The newspaper said that around 7 p.m. on Sunday a convoy of eight military vehicles was seen patrolling the Gado Nasko axis, a move believed to be linked to concerns for the officer’s safety. The earlier incident, as described by military sources, involved two unmarked white Hilux vans whose occupants—dressed in black—trailed Lieutenant Yerima from the NIPCO station off the Kubwa Expressway to Gado Nasko Road at about 6 p.m., prompting the activation of security measures in the vicinity.
Military sources confirmed that the alleged trailing incident is now under investigation. The police, however, reiterated that no formal report of an attempted assassination or related crime has been lodged within the FCT, and they urged the public to rely on official channels for accurate information.
