Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President (Information & Strategy), said in a statement that President Bola Tinubu extended warm birthday wishes to former President Goodluck Jonathan on his 68th birthday. “President Tinubu joins family, friends and political associates to celebrate the former President on this special occasion and for his contributions to nation‑building,” the release quoted. The President highlighted the simplicity and humility that define Dr Jonathan’s style of leadership, noting his demonstration of statesmanship during the 2015 presidential election, which he said “strengthened Nigeria’s democracy and gave the nation a pride of place.”
President Tinubu recalled his various meetings with the former President and the support and counsel that made Dr Jonathan’s ascent possible, particularly in 2010 and the presidential election of 2011. “His statesmanship has continued to inspire many leaders, even as he takes up challenging international diplomatic responsibilities, particularly in promoting democratic culture and values in Africa,” the President said. He prayed for the well‑being of the former President, his wife Patience, and the rest of his family.
Bayo Onanuga added that the birthday message underscores the current administration’s respect for the legacy of past leaders and its commitment to nurturing democratic traditions. Bayo Onanuga concluded the release by reaffirming President Tinubu’s hope that Dr Jonathan’s continued good health will further benefit Nigeria and the wider African continent.
