Abuja – Nigeria marked the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, under the theme “UNiTE to End Digital Violence against All Women and Girls.” In a message, First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, CON, said digital spaces should foster genuine human connection, facilitate learning, and promote productivity, not fear.
She noted that too many women and girls face bullying, blackmail, stalking, and gender‑based hate online, adding, “Digital spaces should foster genuine human connection, facilitate learning, and promote productivity—not fear. Yet, too many women and girls face bullying, blackmail, stalking, and gender‑based hate online. This is unacceptable.”
The First Lady expressed solidarity with survivors and those working to end gender‑based violence, urging government institutions—especially the legislature and judiciary—technology companies, civil society, and all Nigerians to take bold action. “I stand in solidarity with all survivors and with those working tirelessly to end gender‑based violence. I call on government institutions especially the legislature and the judiciary, technology companies, civil society, and every Nigerian to take bold action to make digital spaces safe, inclusive, and respectful for all,” she said.
She concluded with a greeting, “Happy International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women 2025,” and reaffirmed her commitment to protecting women and girls across the country. The message was issued on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, as Nigeria joins the world in observing the day.
