Abuja – President Bola Tinubu on Thursday urged Nigerians to reject divisive rhetoric and embrace respect and tolerance, speaking at the State House during the launch of the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Emblem Appeal Fund. He said national unity remains essential as the country confronts multiple security challenges.

“The armed forces have made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation, and this year’s remembrance efforts mark a new chapter in recognising their dedication,” Tinubu said. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to troop welfare and pledged continued honour for officers who died in service.

The president announced a new Defence Ministry programme aimed at reclaiming ungoverned spaces by deploying the expertise of retired military personnel. “This initiative will strengthen security, restore government presence, and open up affected areas for economic activity,” he explained.

The event, attended by National Assembly leaders, service chiefs, the Inspector‑General of Police and senior government officials, raised a total of ₦320 million for the appeal fund.

Tinubu concluded by calling on all Nigerians to shun divisive language and work together for the nation’s progress, emphasizing that unity and tolerance are vital for the country’s stability and development.
