Lagos – A fire broke out at The Great Nigeria Insurance House, a 25-storey building on Martins Street, Lagos Island, on December 24, 2025. The blaze, originating on the fifth floor, spread downwards, affecting levels below.
“The fire is currently affecting up to the fifth floor, and firefighting continues,” said Margaret Adeseye, Controller General, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service. Firefighters from Ebute Elefun, Dolphin, Sari Iganmu, and Alausa stations responded swiftly, arriving by 16:53 hours, 12 minutes after the 16:41 distress call.
The building houses warehouse storage, clothing material shops, corporate offices, and shops. “No casualty has been recorded so far,” Adeseye added. Authorities are on scene, controlling the fire and assessing damage.
