Abuja, FCT – The House of Representatives has constituted a seven-man Ad Hoc Committee to investigate discrepancies in the recently passed Tax Reform Laws, including the Nigeria Tax Act, 2025, and three other related Acts. The committee will review the legislative process, presidential assent, and publication in the Official Gazette, addressing concerns over harmonization of bills passed by both chambers and documentation transmitted for assent.

“The House of Representatives remains firmly committed to the principles of constitutionalism, separation of powers, due process, and the supremacy of the rule of law,” said Rep. Akin Rotimi, House Spokesman. The committee, chaired by Muktar Betara, will submit its report soon, clarifying whether discrepancies exist, how they occurred, and recommend measures to safeguard future legislative enactments.

Senator Ali Ndume urged President Bola Tinubu to suspend implementation of the disputed laws, scheduled to take effect in January 2026, pending resolution. The Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN) also called for verification of contested Acts, public clarification, and corrective action.

The National Assembly leadership directed the Clerk to re-gazette the Acts, issuing Certified True Copies of versions passed by both chambers, ensuring accuracy and integrity of legislative records.
