President Bola Ahmed Tinubu attended the Grand Finale of the 2025 Eyo Festival on Saturday, dressed in a white robe, damask sash, and distinctive hat, carrying an opambata staff. Held at Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos, the festival returned after 8 years, honoring four distinguished Lagosians: Mobolaji Johnson (first military administrator), Lateef Jakande (first civilian governor), Sir Michael Otedola (former governor), and Alhaja Abibat Mogaji (President Tinubu’s mother and former Iyaloja).
“The Eyo Festival is a vibrant expression of Lagos’ rich traditions, celebrating achievements of distinguished Nigerians,” Tinubu said. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu called it “a homecoming, affirming Lagos’ identity, resilience, and history”. Sanwo-Olu added, “After 8 years, this revered tradition returns in full splendour, symbolizing unity, purity, and communal strength”.
Dignitaries included Hope Uzodimma (Imo Governor), Doris Uzoka (Finance Minister), Femi Gbajabiamila (Chief of Staff), and diplomats. The event featured cultural performances, traditional dances, and Eyo groups procession, ending with prayers for President and country.
