The United States has resumed intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) flights over Nigeria’s North-East, focusing on militant activity in Sambisa Forest after recent airstrikes against Islamic State fighters in Sokoto State. A US Gulfstream V surveillance aircraft was spotted flying over Borno State on Saturday, flight-tracking data revealed.

The operation targets Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), operating in North-East and Lake Chad Basin. Flights reportedly resumed after Thursday’s military action in North-West. Open-source analysts said US surveillance began in late November, operating out of Ghana, a logistics hub for US military activities in West Africa.

The renewed cooperation follows high-level talks between Nigeria and the US, with assurances of increased action against jihadist groups. Would you like updates on security cooperation or militant activity?
