The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) presented a proposed budget of N1.75 trillion for the 2025 fiscal year to the Senate, 9% lower than 2024’s N1.985 trillion. Managing Director Samuel Ogbuku broke down funding sources: N776.5 billion (Federal Government), N752.8 billion (oil companies), N109.4 billion (2024 revenue carried forward), N53.67 billion (recoveries from federal agencies), and N8.35 billion (internal revenue).
Allocation includes N1.631 trillion for regional project execution, N223 billion internal projects, N47.56 billion personnel costs, and N49.929 billion overheads. The 2024 budget performance exceeded targets, fetching N1.985 trillion by October 31, 2025, vs N1.911 trillion target, due to budget extension.
Post-presentation, Senator Asuquo Ekpenyong-led committee held a closed-door session, resolving to tour NDDC projects across nine Niger Delta states in January 2026. “The committee took a critical look at ongoing and completed projects… expects more impact next year,” Ekpenyong said. Members observed a minute’s silence for late Senator Peter Nwaoboshi.
