Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court Abuja granted bail to Bauchi State Finance Commissioner Yakubu Adamu on Friday, under stringent conditions. Adamu was arraigned by EFCC alongside Ayab Agro Products and Freight Company Ltd on six-count money laundering charges.
The court admitted Adamu to N500 million bail with two sureties in like sum. Sureties must own landed property in Abuja’s Maitama, Asokoro, or Gwarinpa districts, depositing original Certificates of Occupancy with the court. They must also surrender international passports; Adamu can’t travel abroad without court order.
“Pending perfection of bail conditions, the commissioner be remanded at Kuje Custodial Centre,” Justice Nwite ordered. Adamu allegedly diverted N4.6 billion meant for motorcycle supply to Bauchi State Government, via Emmanuel Asomugha General Enterprises, with no delivery.
