A Federal High Court in Abuja has adjourned ruling on bail applications by former Attorney-General Abubakar Malami, his son Abdulaziz, and wife Asabe Bashir, till January 7. The trio face 16-count charges by EFCC, alleging concealment of ₦1.014 billion illicit funds and unlawful asset acquisition.
Malami and co-defendants pleaded not guilty. Counsel Joseph Daudu (SAN) argued EFCC previously granted administrative bail, so judicial bail shouldn’t be opposed. EFCC’s Ekele Iheanacho (SAN) countered, saying the application lacked merit.
“As a vacation judge with multiple rulings pending, decision deferred to January 7,” Justice Emeka Nwite ruled. Malami and son remain at Kuje Correctional Centre; Asabe Bashir at Suleja.
