A Rivers State High Court in Port Harcourt has adjourned indefinitely the suit filed by Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his Deputy, Professor Ngozi Nma-Odu, challenging the impeachment processes against them. The presiding judge, Justice Florence Fiberesima, ruled that the adjournment is to enable the Appeal Court to determine the appeals entered by the parties.

The court had earlier issued an interim order of injunction restraining the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Martin Amaewhule, and 32 others from forwarding articles of impeachment or other documents to the Chief Judge with the aim of setting up a panel to investigate alleged gross misconduct.

“The suit is adjourned sine die to enable the Appeal Court to determine the appeals,” Justice Fiberesima said.

The order also restrained the Chief Judge of the state, Justice Simeon Chibuzor Amadi, from receiving or acting on any request or documents related to the impeachment proceedings.
