LAGOS – Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested a prominent Lagos politician and former two-term councilor, Sheleru Sadiq Olalekan, in connection with the illicit sale and trafficking of drugs. Olalekan was apprehended at the Ibeju-Lekki local government council in Lagos State.
The arrest followed credible intelligence that linked the 45-year-old former local council chief, who currently serves as a legislative aide, to drug-related activities. According to Femi Babafemi, spokesman for the NDLEA, Olalekan was arrested on Monday, March 2, 2026, at his residence in Ilado, Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos. During a search of his property, “40 kilograms of skunk, a strain of cannabis, were recovered from one of his rooms.”
In his statement to the NDLEA, Sheleru admitted ownership of the recovered drug exhibit and the property where it was found. He also confirmed that he had previously served two terms as a councilor, representing the Orimedu community within the Ibeju-Lekki local government council.
