Ologbo, Edo State, Nigeria – Edo State has marked a significant step in its industrialization drive with the groundbreaking ceremony for a 100-megawatt power plant and a 300-metric-tonnes-per-day Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) facility. These strategic energy projects, located at the Taihu Industrial Park in Ologbo Community, Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area, are being developed by Taihu Industry Park Ologbo Company Limited, a subsidiary of the China Clean Energy Technology Company.
The projects are expected to enhance energy supply significantly, stimulate industrial activities, and reinforce Edo State’s burgeoning reputation as a prime destination for investment and manufacturing. Governor Monday Okpebholo, who performed the groundbreaking ceremony on Monday, March 9, 2026, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to fostering a business-friendly environment that promotes manufacturing, job creation, and sustainable economic development.
Speaking at the event, Governor Okpebholo described the project as “a significant step toward strengthening the state’s industrial base, improving energy security and accelerating economic transformation.” He emphasized that his administration has deliberately pursued policies to create an enabling environment for investors, focusing on attracting genuine investments that deliver long-term prosperity. “With this power plant, we are creating an environment-friendly ecosystem for manufacturing, job creation and sustainable economic growth in Edo State,” he added, linking the initiative to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s economic vision, which recognizes reliable electricity as the backbone of industrialization.
The Managing Director of Taihu Industry Park Ologbo Company Limited, Jiang Fan, hailed the projects as a major milestone set to drive economic development and bolster Edo State’s expanding industrial ecosystem. He stated, “We break ground today and tomorrow we will power industries, energize communities and fuel growth. These projects will be completed within six months from today,” with a tentative commissioning date fixed for September 9, 2026.
Jiang Fan acknowledged the crucial role played by the Chairman of Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area, Eric Sino Osawaru, for facilitating engagement with the host community. “We want to express our appreciation to the Honourable Chairman of Ikpoba-Okha Local Government, Hon. Eric Sino Osawaru, who has been our torchbearer to the Ologbo community, holding our hands in managing all community issues,” he noted. He also commended the Ologbo Community for their cooperation, assuring them of responsible operational practices, environmental sustainability, and strong community engagement.
The company’s managing director expressed confidence that the collaboration between the Edo State Government, the local government authority, and the host community would attract additional high-value investments to the Taihu Industrial Park, allowing it to evolve into a major regional industrial hub. The park’s first phase will occupy approximately 29 hectares in Ologbo, with China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCETC) serving as the major contractor.
In his welcome address, Hon. Eric Osawaru described the groundbreaking as a major milestone for the local government, Edo State, and Nigeria’s energy sector, highlighting the positive impact of collaboration. Deacon Osazuwa, speaking on behalf of the host community, lauded Governor Okpebholo for creating an investor-friendly climate, expressing optimism that the project would significantly boost economic activities and improve livelihoods in Ologbo.
Edo State Commissioner for Power, Paul Usebor, reiterated the project’s strategic importance in the state’s ambition to become a hub for reliable power generation and industrial development. He stated that the 100MW power plant would strengthen electricity supply, while the LNG facility would enhance cleaner energy production, improve gas utilization, and boost energy security.
Dr. Patrick Akhere Ebojele, Chief Press Secretary to Governor Monday Okpebholo, issued a statement describing the development as a clear indication that Governor Okpebholo’s economic policies are successfully attracting critical infrastructure investments capable of transforming Edo State into a major industrial and energy hub in Nigeria. The governor urged the host community to maintain their hospitality, stressing that peaceful coexistence between investors and local communities is vital for long-term development, and assured investors of government protection and support.
