Abuja, September 22, 2025 – The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) is gearing up for the resumption of the Abuja-Kaduna Train Service (AKTS) with a comprehensive four-day training program for staff at Idu Station, Abuja. The initiative underscores the corporation’s emphasis on preparedness and safety ahead of operations restart.
Representing NRC Managing Director Dr. Kayode Opeifa, Director of Corporate Planning Dr. Zang James stressed the importance of safe practices, urging staff to take their responsibilities seriously. “Safe work practices are crucial, and staff must take their jobs seriously,” he said.
Sessions covered critical areas including hazard identification, risk assessment, and safety controls, led by Deputy Director Health and Safety Mr. Adediran Adedamola. “Responsibility for safe practices rests with every staff member,” Adediran emphasized. Engr. Adesegud Ogunade highlighted adherence to operational handbooks and professionalism as keys to smooth railway operations.
Staff were encouraged to be attentive and work collaboratively, with Mr. Paschal Nnorli noting the training aims to “refresh staff capacity and strengthen efficient train operations.” Engr. Monday Adejo concluded, “Lessons learned will translate into safer, hitch-free train operations,” appreciating management’s commitment to development.
The training involves real-life onboard operations scenarios and follows through on Dr. Opeifa’s commitment to adequately prepare staff before service resumption.
