The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has launched a sharp criticism against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, accusing him of neglecting Nigeria’s escalating insecurity while focusing on political and social appearances. In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the party condemned the President’s what it termed “brazen insensitivity” to the suffering of citizens faced with relentless banditry, abductions, and killings nationwide.
The ADC pointed to recent attacks in Kwara and Kogi States, widespread school closures across the Northern region, and ongoing mass abductions as proof that Tinubu’s assertions of progress in security are “a tragic denial of reality.” The party also rejected the President’s recent comments on national unity, labeling them as “political rhetoric” and emphasizing that genuine unity must stem from “responsible leadership and empathy, not ceremonial appearances.”
To address the crisis, the ADC proposed a five-point action plan. It called on the administration to formally acknowledge the true scale of insecurity nationwide, engage directly with affected communities and local leaders, elevate security alertness through joint deployments of military, police, and local networks, commit to transparency by providing regular public reports on security operations, and audit federal security spending via a transparent monitoring mechanism.
In conclusion, the party declared, “Nigeria is under attack. This administration must stop treating national security as a political talking point. The time for symbolic gestures is over — what the country needs now is responsible leadership, operational urgency, and measurable results.”
