Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule has raised a security alert over the infiltration of new terror groups into the North-Central region, warning that the situation demands immediate action. The governor revealed that a faction known as “Wulowulo,” suspected to be a breakaway group from Boko Haram, is now active in Kwara State. He also highlighted the expansion of the violent Lakurawa group into Kwara from its previous bases in Kebbi and Sokoto States.
Governor Sule addressed security stakeholders, stating, “One of the reasons why we invited you here is the fact that the situation of insecurity, especially in other parts of the country, is a big concern, and some of them are beginning to spread into our state.” He stressed the urgency of the matter, adding, “It is very important that we take steps to ensure that does not happen to us.” He expressed specific concern about the Lakurawa group’s movement, saying, “The Lakurawa group is now a big problem in Kwara. We should be concerned that it does not extend all the way to Nasarawa State.” The governor called for enhanced vigilance and intelligence-sharing among security agencies to counter this threat.
In a separate domestic crisis, Governor Sule has ordered a full-scale investigation into a deadly clash in Kokona Local Government Area. The violence between the Mada and Ninzom communities of Ndama village over a land dispute resulted in the deaths of seven people. The governor has directed the Commissioner of Police and the State Director of the Department of State Services (DSS) to conduct a comprehensive probe and ensure the perpetrators are prosecuted.
Furthermore, Governor Sule decried the increasing incidents of kidnappings in Lafia and Karu Local Government Areas, urging security operatives to intensify surveillance and develop new strategies to end the menace.
