Abuja – President Bola Tinubu has mandated a comprehensive security operation in the forests of Kwara State following a wave of kidnappings and terrorist incidents. The directive, announced by the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare, calls for enhanced air surveillance by the Nigerian Air Force to monitor the dense forest areas where criminals are believed to be hiding.
The order follows a series of violent attacks, including the recent kidnapping of at least 10 residents in Isapa, a community in the Ekiti Local Government Area. Armed bandits stormed Isapa, firing indiscriminately and forcing residents to flee. Among those abducted were a pregnant woman and two nursing mothers, underscoring the vulnerability of families in the area.
President Tinubu also referenced the abduction and rescue of 38 churchgoers in Eruku, noting that security agencies had successfully secured their release. “We are relieved that the 38 worshippers have been freed,” he said, adding that the operation demonstrated the effectiveness of coordinated security efforts.
Communities have been urged to report any suspicious activities to assist security forces. “We encourage all citizens to provide timely intelligence on any strange movements or activities,” Sunday Dare said, emphasizing that proactive engagement will help secure the region and mitigate further threats.
The President’s directive underscores the ongoing security challenges in Nigeria and the urgent calls from stakeholders for immediate action to restore safety and stability in the region. The operation will involve 24‑hour aerial patrols, real‑time intelligence sharing with ground troops, and a focus on rapid rescue missions.
