Yola, Nigeria – Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State has immediately imposed a 24-hour curfew on Lamurde Local Government Area following a resurgence of violent attacks in several communities within the region. The directive was announced on Monday in Yola by Humwashi Wonosikou, the Chief Press Secretary to the governor.
This latest imposition comes after a previous 24-hour curfew was enacted on December 8, 2025, due to “fresh eruption of communal hostilities” and assaults on the Bachama community. Wonosikou stated that the current measure is a direct response to renewed violence and a breach of peace that has reportedly resulted in the loss of lives among residents in the affected communities.
Governor Fintiri condemned the disturbances as “unacceptable” and has instructed security agencies to rigorously enforce the curfew. Wonosikou further added that “anyone or group found violating the directive will be arrested and dealt with in accordance with the law.” The curfew is set to remain in place indefinitely, “until further notice,” with security agencies tasked to maintain law and order while upholding the restriction.
Fintiri urged residents to adhere to the curfew and to provide pertinent information to security agencies to foster peaceful coexistence. He emphasized that “Government will not condone acts of violence and will take necessary measures to restore peace and order.” The governor reiterated the government’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and property and called for cooperation from residents to help restore normalcy.
