Dangote Peugeot Automobiles Nigeria Limited has commenced local assembly of the new generation Peugeot 3008 and 5008 sport utility vehicles at its greenfield plant in Kaduna, marking a major expansion of Nigeria’s domestic auto manufacturing.
The company confirmed that production started in April 2026, with the first batch of vehicles expected to go on sale next month. Both models will be offered in Allure and premium GT trims, powered by a 1.6-litre THP petrol engine delivering 163 horsepower and paired with an EAT6 automatic transmission.
The addition of the 3008 and 5008 lines represents a significant broadening of the Kaduna facility’s output. Established four years ago, the Greenfields plant has been producing the Peugeot Landtrek pickup in 4×4 and 4×2 configurations, as well as single and double cab variants.
DPAN was formed six years ago as a joint venture between Dangote Industries Limited and Peugeot to re-establish local vehicle assembly and reduce Nigeria’s reliance on imported vehicles. Company officials said the expansion aligns with efforts to deepen local manufacturing and strengthen the automotive value chain.
Michael Whitfield, Stellantis Managing Director for South Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa, described the move as a critical step for the regional industry. “Nigeria is one of the two biggest economies in Africa and helping create a local and sustainable automotive industry is part of the actualisation of the African Continental Free Trade Area. We are happy to continue the work with Dangote Industries and believe the arrival of the new products will cater to the needs of our Nigerian customers,” he said.
DPAN Commercial Director Umar Kaita pointed to the brand’s long history in Nigeria. “Peugeot was a household name in Nigeria from the 1940s to the 1980s and this local production will see the re-emergence of the Peugeot Lion in the Nigerian landscape once again,” he said.
The expansion positions the Kaduna plant as a growing hub for Peugeot production in West Africa, adding passenger-focused SUVs to its existing lineup of commercial pickups.
