In a bid to enhance security within the National Assembly complex, access to the corridor leading to the office of Senate President Godswill Akpabio has been restricted ahead of the legislative body’s resumption on October 7. Sergeant-at-Arms Etido Ekpo, a retired Brigadier-General, signed a memo announcing the new measures, stating the corridor will now be limited to senators and House of Representatives members only.

The directive effectively bars aides, personal assistants, and other unauthorized individuals from accessing the hallway connecting the Senate building to Akpabio’s office. “The measures are meant to ensure a secure and safe environment for legislative duties,” Ekpo noted in the memo, highlighting the National Assembly’s focus on bolstering security arrangements.

With the legislature returning from over two months of recess, the restricted access underscores efforts to tighten security protocols as to ensure an environment conducive to legislative work as lawmakers tackle pending business. The National Assembly is set to resume plenary on Tuesday, October 7, following the break.
