Business magnate Dr. Deji Adeleke, father of Afrobeats star Davido, has restated his commitment to supporting security in Osun State as the state government inaugurated the Osun State Security Trust Fund.

Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has inaugurated the Osun State Security Trust Fund, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to making the state safer, stronger, and more prosperous.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony held at the Government House Banquet Hall, Osogbo, Governor Adeleke described the initiative as “a strategic step towards ensuring sustainable security financing” in the state.

“From the first day we assumed office, we made it clear that the security and well-being of our people would remain top priority,” the Governor declared. “This Fund will help us strengthen operational capacity, improve response time, and provide modern equipment and logistics for our security agencies.”

Governor Adeleke noted that the Fund, established by law and backed by the State House of Assembly, is designed to provide a steady stream of resources to support security operations and enhance coordination among agencies.

He commended members of the newly inaugurated Security Trust Fund Board, describing their appointment as “a national call to service,” and urged them to uphold transparency, integrity, and accountability in managing public contributions.

“The people of Osun must see this Fund as a beacon of trust, not just in name but in practice,” he said.

Governor Adeleke also used the occasion to rally support from the private sector, development partners, and well-meaning citizens, stressing that “security is everyone’s business.”

Reiterating his government’s commitment to prudent financial management, Adeleke assured stakeholders that every contribution to the Fund would be judiciously used, with proper oversight and full transparency.

“Our goal is to make Osun the safest, most peaceful, and most business-friendly state in Nigeria,” he said confidently.

The Governor had earlier announced late March 2026 as the launching and unveiling month for the Osun State Security Trust Fund. “Osun state is about to join the league of states with a security trust fund. By next month, our government will be launching the fund”, Governor Adeleke assured in February 2026.

As part of preparation for the take off, the Governor narrated that the enabling law for the fund has been reviewed and signed into law, adding “we reviewed the extant law setting up the trust fund to insert modern trends and futuristic postulations. We are pulling the movers and shakers of the private sector to Osun to support our initiative. The take off of the fund will provide resources to support security agencies across Osun state.”

While Dr. Deji Adeleke, a billionaire businessman and philanthropist, has a history of major public donations, including N500 million to the Federal Government to help fight COVID-19 in 2020 and N1 billion to the centenary Endowment Fund of the Cherubim and Seraphim Church in August 2024, there is no public record confirming a N500 million security donation by him at the Osun Security Trust Fund launch as of April 23, 2026.

In a statement, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, Spokesperson to the Osun State Governor, clarified in August 2024 that “the donation of One Billion Naira to the Cherubim and Seraphim Church is a private philanthropic gesture by a world-renowned business mogul, Dr Deji Adeleke which has no link or source with the Osun State government.”

Governor Adeleke has repeatedly stated that his administration does not operate a slush fund that many call security votes. “I am proud to declare that the Osun state government under my watch does not operate a slush fund that our media friends call security votes. Our security needs are met through the approval process,” the Governor said.

The Osun State Security Trust Fund is modeled on a public-private partnership to address the operational and logistics needs of security agencies. “We must ramp up protection of lives and properties. We cannot achieve this goal without properly equipping and strengthening our security services. Our administration is committed to achieving a fully secured state to complement ongoing reconstruction and recovery process in the state,” Governor Adeleke said.

No official statement from the Osun State Government or the Adeleke family has announced a N500 million donation by Dr. Deji Adeleke to the Osun Security Trust Fund as of the time of this report.
