The Nigeria Labour Congress has issued a four-week ultimatum to the Federal Government to resolve the lingering issues between the government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities.
In a statement, the NLC expressed concern over the continuous disruption of academic activities in Nigerian universities, emphasizing that the ongoing crisis poses a grave threat to the future of education in the country.
“The education sector cannot continue to suffer neglect while students remain at home indefinitely. We urge the Federal Government to act swiftly and responsibly to prevent another total shutdown,” the NLC stated.
The labour body warned that failure to resolve the crisis within the stipulated four weeks may compel it to take decisive industrial action in solidarity with the lecturers.
The NLC’s ultimatum comes amid repeated strikes by ASUU, causing significant setbacks in the nation’s tertiary education system.
