The Bauchi State Police Command has deployed officers to Bursali Village in Zaki Local Government Area to deter further violence after a clash between herders and farmers left one person dead. Police Commissioner Sani-Omolori Aliyu confirmed the arrest of five suspects connected to the incident, which occurred on November 26. The conflict began when herders from Jigawa State allegedly trespassed onto local farmlands, destroying crops.

Command spokesperson Ahmed Wakil detailed the sequence of events, stating, “This regrettable act precipitated a confrontation between the herders and community members, during which one herder was killed.” Following a distress call, the Divisional Police Officer of Zaki Division, SP Iliya Dogo, swiftly dispatched operatives to the scene, leading to the immediate arrests.

Commissioner Aliyu has ordered the case transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for a comprehensive investigation. He assured residents that normalcy has been restored and urged communities to shun any acts of reprisal. “The arrested suspects will be profiled and charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations,” Aliyu added, reaffirming the Command’s commitment to maintaining peace in the area.
