Abuja – The High Court of the Federal Capital Territory has granted bail to former Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, SAN, ruling on an ex parte application by Justice Bello Kawu. The bail terms, previously considered by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), require Malami to surrender his passport and present bail bonds from two sureties – the Director General of the Nigerian Legal Aid Council and a serving member of the House of Representatives representing Augie/Argungu Federal Constituency.
The court reaffirmed bail terms fulfilled on November 28, 2025, and formally reactivated them in a subsequent order dated December 18, 2025. The matter has been adjourned to January 5, 2026.
The EFCC had filed a 16-count money laundering charge against Malami and two others, alleging he laundered about N9 billion to acquire multiple properties in Abuja, Kebbi, Kano, and other states. The EFCC claims Malami and associates must account for approximately 30 houses valued at N212.8 billion, allegedly acquired during his tenure as AGF between 2015 and 2023.
