The Deputy Governor of Imo State, Professor Placid Njoku, has debunked rumours circulating on social media that he has resigned from office, describing the reports as baseless and false.
In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Ozioma Teddy Ukwuoma, the deputy governor urged Imo citizens and the general public to disregard the fake news. “My attention has been drawn to the fake news circulating in the social media purporting that the deputy governor of Imo, Professor Placid Njoku, has resigned,” the statement read.
Ukwuoma said while it remains the office’s practice to ignore such baseless stories, the need to set the record straight for concerned Imo citizens necessitated the rebuttal. “This story has no iota of truth in it but is a mere figment of the imaginations of those working against the government and people of Imo State,” he said.
The deputy governor stated that he enjoys a robust working relationship with his principal, Governor Hope Uzodimma, and with every member of the State Executive Council, including members of the state legislature. “Prof. Njoku enjoys a robust working relationship with his boss, Gov. Hope Uzodimma, and indeed with every member of the state executive council, including members of the state legislature,” Ukwuoma said.

The clarification comes amid a wave of social media speculation suggesting a rift within the Imo State Government House. Njoku, who has served as deputy governor since 2020, reiterated his commitment to the administration and to the people of Imo State.
