The Chairman of Ethiope East Local Government Area in Delta State, Hon. Augustine Ogedegbe, has drawn public attention after a viral video showed him set to distribute a range of empowerment items to residents, including tricycles, hair dryers, cars, generators, wheelchairs, and mobility aids for elderly and disabled persons.
In the footage, voices can be heard praising the chairman for what they described as a generous gesture aimed at improving livelihoods in the area. The background of the video also captures a flag-off ceremony in progress, with a voice on a microphone introducing guests and outlining the purpose of the event.
While the specific date of the distribution has not been officially confirmed by the council, the display of items in the video has sparked widespread discussion on social media, with many describing it as a rare show of direct support at the grassroots level. Residents in the background are seen expressing appreciation as the chairman’s initiative unfolds.

Hon. Ogedegbe has previously stated that youth and women empowerment remain a priority for his administration, aligning with the MORE Agenda of Delta State Governor Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori. During earlier campaign events, he pledged to focus on wealth and job creation, transparency, and the judicious use of council funds to improve living standards in Ethiope East.
“This is about ensuring that government is felt in homes and not only seen on television,” Ogedegbe said in a past statement, stressing his commitment to inclusive development and support for vulnerable groups.
The Ethiope East council chairman has also been involved in other welfare initiatives, including support for widows of fallen military personnel and donations to orphanages through the office of his wife, Deaconess Favour Ogedegbe, as part of activities marking his 100 days in office.
No official statement has been issued by the council detailing the full scope or beneficiaries of the current empowerment drive shown in the viral video.
