The Osun State Police Command has recorded another operational breakthrough following targeted, intelligence-led raids on identified black spots and criminal hideouts across Osogbo.
The operations were carried out in compliance with the directives of the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Zungura.
During the operations, six suspected cultists were arrested. They are Ajibade Lateef, 21 years, Olaniyi Kabiru, 27 years, Ifaleke Ifedeji, 18 years, Tajudeen Wasiu, 35 years, Abideen Babatunde, 35 years, and Opeyemi Lukman, 18 years.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects are allegedly members of the Eiye Confraternity and are suspected to be part of a notorious criminal gang responsible for terrorising residents and members of the public around the Mackay Junction area of Osogbo.
Items recovered from the suspects include suspected criminal charms, illicit drugs, and cash suspected to be proceeds from illicit drug activities.
The suspects have been charged to court accordingly, while the Command continues to intensify intelligence gathering and tactical operations to identify, apprehend, and prosecute other individuals involved in cultism, drug-related offences, and other criminal activities across the state.
The Commissioner of Police reiterated that Osun State will not serve as a safe haven for cultists, drug peddlers, or any criminal elements.
He warned individuals and groups involved in criminal activities to desist immediately or be prepared to face the full weight of the law.
The Command urged parents, guardians, community leaders, landlords, and other stakeholders to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements and criminal activities to the nearest police station or through established police emergency channels.
The Command also advised youths to shun cultism, illicit drugs, and all forms of criminal association, noting that the consequences of criminal conduct can be severe and life-altering.
According to the Command, the raids will continue across identified black spots and criminal hideouts until criminal elements are flushed out and lasting peace and security are sustained in Osogbo and other parts of Osun State.
The Command said it remains committed to protecting lives and property and urged members of the public to cooperate with the Police in the collective fight against crime.
