The people of Imesi-Ile, Ijesa land, and the traditional institution have been thrown into mourning following reports of the demise of the Paramount Ruler of Imesi-Ile, Oba Engr. Enoch Ademola Akinyemi, Oyoyo II.
The revered monarch was reported to have joined his ancestors on Wednesday, throwing the ancient community into deep grief.
In a telephone conversation, the monarch’s Personal Assistant, Hon. Lekan Animashaun, disclosed that he was with Kabiyesi until about 9:00 p.m. yesterday and that the revered traditional ruler did not exhibit any sign suggesting that his departure was imminent.
Hon. Animashaun described the late monarch as a complete gentleman whose life and reign were defined by love for his people, commitment to his community, and deep affection for Ijesa land.
According to him, the monarch was a compassionate and people-oriented traditional ruler who placed the welfare and development of Imesi-Ile close to his heart.
He said the late Oba valued peace, unity, and the well-being of his subjects, while maintaining a strong connection with the cultural heritage and aspirations of his people.
The reported passing of Oba Akinyemi, Oyoyo II, marks a deeply emotional moment for Imesi-Ile and the wider Ijesa community, where traditional rulers remain important custodians of culture, history, and communal identity.
As the community comes to terms with the development, tributes are expected from family members, traditional institutions, government officials, and well-wishers who knew and worked with the late monarch.
