The All Progressives Congress APC has unveiled the current Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, as its governorship candidate for the 2027 Lagos State gubernatorial election. His running mate is Princess Damilola Sonayon-James, the former Deputy State Chairman of the APC in Lagos.
In a press release issued on Saturday 20th of June 2026, the Convener of the Progressive Next Generation Initiative PNGi, Hon. Jeffrey Omoh Ozemegwa, praised the APC ticket in Lagos ahead of the 2027 gubernatorial elections. He described it as “a ticket for the next generation leaders” and urged young Nigerians to take a more active role in governance, emphasizing that the future of leadership depends on meaningful youth participation in public affairs.
Hon. Omoh made the remarks during a gathering of All Progressives Congress faithfuls in Abuja themed “Building the next generation Future of Governance through Youth Participation”. The remarks were delivered through a press release.
He said President Tinubu’s second-term bid should be viewed as a national project with particular strategic benefits for the youths. According to him, political alignments across the country indicate that continuity in 2027 would naturally bring the Presidency closer to the youths in the next political cycle.
He added that advocating continuity strengthens national stability while giving young leaders from the region a clearer path to national leadership.
Speaking earlier, the Convener of PNGI, Hon. Jeffrey Omoh Ozemegwa, said the group operates as a modern, data-driven advocacy structure distinct from conventional political support groups. He explained that PNGI uses analytics, community intelligence and multilingual messaging to educate rural and semi-urban communities on the achievements of the Tinubu administration under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
He said the group’s work is aimed at countering misinformation, improving political awareness and ensuring that citizens at the grassroots benefit from government programmes. He also added that one of the strongest All Progressives Congress tickets is the Lagos ticket of Dr. Obafemi Hamzat as their governorship candidate, with Princess Damilola Sonayon-James as his running mate.
