Governor Dauda Lawal has condemned the ambush that killed five policemen and three Zamfara Community Protection Guards personnel along the Funtua-Tsafe-Gusau road.
In a statement on his Facebook page, the governor commiserated with the families of the victims.
The attack occurred during a joint routine patrol, with locals reporting that bandits opened fire on the security team.
The Zamfara State Police Command confirmed the incident, noting that officers engaged in a fierce gun duel, neutralizing several bandits and forcing others to flee with gunshot wounds.
Tragically, five police officers lost their lives. The command has restored normalcy and deployed additional reinforcement to protect commuters along the highway.
