Prominent Islamic scholar, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, has called on President Bola Tinubu to take strong and immediate action against former U.S. President Donald Trump over his alleged threat to launch a military attack on Nigeria. Gumi described Trump’s remarks as a “profound disrespect” to Nigeria’s authority and demanded a swift and appropriate diplomatic response.

“For Trump to threaten a sovereign country with military attack is a profound disrespect to our authority, but we can rise above it,” Gumi wrote in a statement posted on his verified Facebook page.

The cleric advised President Tinubu to summon the U.S. ambassador to Nigeria and demand a formal retraction of the threat. Failure to do so, Gumi said, should lead to a review or outright severance of diplomatic ties with Washington. “President Tinubu should summon the U.S. ambassador; they either retract their threats or we sever diplomatic ties with this irresponsible regime,” he stated.

Gumi also emphasized the need for Nigeria to explore alternative economic and military partnerships, stressing that the country must not be overly dependent on any one nation. “There are lots of other options for our economic expansion and military alliance,” he added.
