Eruku – Armed men attempted to invade the community of Eruku in the Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State on November 19, 2025, sparking a fierce gun battle with local vigilantes, hunters and police. The clash left two residents dead and a vigilante member injured. An unspecified number of worshippers were also reportedly abducted from a local church during the incident.
In response, the Eruku vigilantes, together with hunters, launched a search‑and‑rescue operation that resulted in the arrest of four suspected bandits. Stolen cattle were also recovered during the operation. Residents have demanded that the government provide their vigilantes with weapons, accusing some police operatives of inaction during the attack.
The Kwara State Commissioner of Police visited Eruku to reassure the community, holding meetings with local leaders and vigilante groups to improve collaboration. The police command confirmed an intensive manhunt is underway to rescue the abducted victims and apprehend all criminals involved in the recent spate of attacks in the area.
The community remains on edge as authorities work to restore peace and security. The vigilantes say they will continue their search‑and‑rescue efforts until all abducted worshippers are freed and the perpetrators are brought to justice. The police have urged anyone with information to come forward to assist in the investigation.
