The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has clarified reports of a diversion of a NAF C‑130 aircraft during a ferry mission to Portugal on 8 December 2025. According to the press release, the crew detected a technical concern shortly after takeoff from Lagos, prompting a precautionary landing at Bobo‑Dioulasso in Burkina Faso – the nearest suitable airfield – in line with standard safety procedures and international aviation protocols.
All crew members are safe and have received cordial treatment from the host authorities, the statement said. Plans are underway to resume the mission as scheduled.
“The Nigerian Air Force appreciates the support received during this period and assures the public that NAF remains professionally committed to strict compliance with operational procedures and safety standards, ensuring the protection of its personnel while fulfilling its constitutional mandate,” the release quoted.
The NAF reiterated its dedication to operational safety and thanked the Burkina Faso authorities for their assistance.
The release was issued by Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, Director of Public Relations and Information, Headquarters, Nigerian Air Force, on 9 December 2025.
