The Progressive Next Generation Initiative has called for early voter mobilisation and intensified grassroots campaigns ahead of the February 21, 2026 Federal Capital Territory Area Council elections.

The group made the call during a strategic engagement and stakeholders meeting convened to rally support for the re-election bid of Abuja Municipal Area Council Chairman Christopher Zakka Maikalangu.

The meeting brought together the Convener of PNGI, Jeffery Omoh Ozemegwa, the AMAC chairman, and the Director-General of the Tinubu Support Group, Umar Tanko Yakasai.

Speaking at the meeting, Ozemegwa stated that PNGI was founded on the conviction that Nigeria is approaching a major generational leadership transition after the 2027 general elections.

Over 15 per cent of current political actors will phase out, making it imperative to nurture a younger, data-driven political class, Ozemegwa said.

He added that PNGI is committed to building leaders capable of shaping governance and development in AMAC by 2030.

Ozemegwa reaffirmed PNGI’s commitment to supporting Maikalangu’s re-election bid, citing what he described as the chairman’s achievements, character, and leadership qualities.

He emphasised that political enlightenment remains critical, noting that many ward chairmen and councillors require deeper understanding of government policies and governance processes.

According to Ozemegwa, PNGI has already commenced the deployment of its grassroots mobilisation structures across AMAC and other parts of the FCT, with strategic support from grassroots mobilisers including Ahaja Yamahu, Alhaji Mika, Alhaji Candido, and Ibrahim Ombugadu.

Ozemegwa further urged the national leadership of the APC to accord priority attention to the forthcoming council election by strengthening grassroots mobilisation and supporting the emergence of a new generation of political leaders ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The Progressive Next Generation Initiative described itself as a data and analytics-driven platform established to identify, mentor, and support emerging political leaders across the FCT and Nigeria.
