The suspect, Pablo Mamu, a 38-year-old man from Ughelli in Delta State, was apprehended during a joint raid by police and vigilante operatives on December 23. Police spokesperson in Anambra State, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the operation was carried out after credible information led the team to the suspect’s hideout.
“The joint security team acted on credible information provided, burst the suspect in his harbour and during a search conducted,” Ikenga said.
Items recovered from the suspect included one OFN rifle, one locally made pistol, one live 9mm ammunition, eight live cartridges and a black Lexus 330 SUV with a different number plate.
According to the police, the arrest followed an earlier case where the vehicle of a kidnapped victim was tracked and recovered at MCC Junction, Onitsha, after a ransom of N15 million was paid.
The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, Nnaghe Obono, commended the synergy between security operatives and residents who provide information for operations. He stressed the importance of continued collaboration in ensuring security, especially during the festive season.
