Residents of Ilo-Ijesa in Oriade Local Government Area of Osun State have received a brand new 300KVA electricity transformer donated by Barrister Pelumi Olajengbesi.
Olajengbesi is the Accord Party candidate for Obokun/Oriade Federal Constituency and a legal practitioner. He is not currently a public office holder.
The donation was formally presented on Saturday, October 31, 2026, ending 14 years of unstable electricity supply in the community.
According to a statement by his campaign organisation, the Pelumi Olajengbesi Campaign Organisation, POCO, signed by its spokesperson Sodiq Lawal Chocomilo, the community had endured low voltage and unreliable power since 2012.
The intervention fulfils a pledge Olajengbesi made during his campaign tour of the constituency in August. He had promised to deliver the transformer in October ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking during the presentation, Olajengbesi said his action was driven by a burden for community development and the economic well-being of residents.
He stressed that the gesture should not be seen as mere campaign activity.
“I am not yet in office, but I made a promise in August and I have fulfilled it in October,” he said. “That is the assurance I am giving. I don’t want my people to curse me tomorrow.”
The transformer was received with wild jubilation by the community chairman, Mr. Dapo Ajakaye, alongside community leaders, youth groups, women leaders and artisans.
Ajakaye thanked Olajengbesi for the intervention, recalling that residents had struggled with unstable electricity for about 14 years.
He said he initially doubted the promise when it was made.
“For 14 years, we have been having unstable electricity. When you told us that the transformer would be provided, I thought it was a bluff to earn our votes during the guber election,” Ajakaye said.
“But you came in August, saw our suffering, and today you have ended our darkness. We have adopted you as our son and our light,” he added.
Olajengbesi, who served as spokesperson for Governor Ademola Adeleke’s re-election campaign, also criticised the failure of some political office holders to provide basic amenities despite citizens’ contributions through taxes and participation in elections.
He also raised concerns about the alleged diversion of public resources meant for infrastructure such as transformers, solar streetlights and boreholes to private interests.
Residents said the new transformer would boost small businesses and contribute to the economic revival of Ilo-Ijesa, while final restoration of stable supply will depend on installation and approvals by relevant electricity authorities.
