The Zamfara State House of Assembly has suspended two local government chairmen, Umar Faru of Bukkuyum and Mannir Muazu Haidara of Kaura Namoda, over allegations of financial misappropriation. The decision was made during a plenary session presided over by Speaker Bilyaminu Moriki, who led lawmakers in unanimously adopting a committee report recommending the suspension.

“The Committee recommended the suspension of the two Executive Chairmen for their deliberate refusal to appear before it and account for expenditures,” said Bello Madaro Kurya, spokesperson of the House. The chairmen have been directed to hand over responsibilities to their vice chairmen pending investigation outcome.

The suspension is part of efforts to entrench transparency and accountability in local government administration, according to the Assembly. The move has been welcomed by lawmakers, who expressed support for the decision.
