The All Progressives Congress in Osun State says it is banking on its past record and new policy thrust to reclaim the governorship seat in the August 15, 2026 election, even as it dismissed allegations linking the party to recent damage of ongoing flyover projects in the state.
Speaking at the Osun NUJ Guest Platform in Osogbo, the State Coordinator of Renewed Hope Ambassadors, Oluomo Sunday Akere, said the APC will run a peaceful campaign and ensure the election is violence-free.
He spoke on behalf of the party, with the NUJ Council Chairman, Dr. Adeyemi Aboderin, assuring that the media would give adequate and balanced coverage to issues raised at the engagement.
Akere addressed the controversy around the flyovers being constructed by the Ademola Adeleke administration. He said the APC was not behind the vandalisation, and questioned the quality and award process of the projects from the beginning.
“We complained at the conception of the projects that the contractors were non professionals registered with the CAC as Fertilizer merchant and another as Tye and Dye merchant,” Akere said.
The former Commissioner for Information said the APC is presenting Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, AMBO, as its flag bearer, and that the party’s eight years under Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola and four years under Gboyega Oyetola provide a solid basis for a comeback.
He pointed to initiatives of the previous APC governments such as the Omoluabi Saving Scheme, which he said helped cushion the effect of half-salary payments to civil servants when state finances were tight, and the Osun Empowerment Scheme, OES, that paid monthly stipends to school leavers during periods of job scarcity.
Looking ahead, Akere outlined the priorities of an incoming APC administration to include technology-driven development powered by improved energy supply, 35 percent affirmative action for women in government, and a focus on agricultural economy. He also listed education, infrastructure and security among key project areas.
On security, he said the party has already demonstrated commitment by leveraging its control of local governments to provide armoured personnel carriers for security operatives to be stationed at strategic locations across the state.
Akere, who is also the newly elected Governor of the Prestigious Lion Club in Osun, expressed confidence that voters will return the APC to power on August 15.
“August 15 will usher in AMBO as the new Governor of the state under APC,” he said, while urging opposition parties “to let peace reign.”
