ILE-IFE, Osun State — The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, has donated a brand new Hilux vehicle and ₦100 million to support the Iru Ekun Security Network founded by Yoruba nation activist, Chief Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho.
The donation was presented at the Ooni’s palace in Ile-Ife as part of efforts to strengthen regional security operations in Yorubaland. The monarch said the support was aimed at boosting the logistics and operational capacity of the security outfit.
Speaking during the presentation, the Ooni described Igboho as a courageous son of Yorubaland who has shown commitment to protecting the people. He said traditional institutions must back initiatives that safeguard lives and property across the South-West.
Igboho received the donation on behalf of Iru Ekun Security Network and expressed appreciation to the Ooni for the gesture. He said the vehicle and funds would be deployed to enhance patrols, response time, and welfare of operatives working to combat kidnapping, banditry and other crimes in the region.
The Iru Ekun Security Network is Igboho’s proposed 50,000-man regional security structure focused on community safety across Yoruba-speaking states. Igboho has said the group is seeking proper documentation and approval to operate within Nigeria’s legal security framework.
The Ooni’s donation comes amid ongoing discussions about community policing and collaboration between traditional rulers, government and local security groups to address insecurity.
