President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved an 18-month tenure extension for Kemi Nanna Nandap, Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, keeping her in office until June 30, 2028.

The approval is her second extension. Nandap, who was nominated by the President on February 21, 2024 and confirmed by the Senate on March 1, 2024, was originally due to retire on August 31, 2025.

She had completed 35 years of service on October 9, 2024, having joined the Service on October 9, 1989. In March 2025, President Tinubu had first extended her tenure by 16 months to December 31, 2026. Monday’s approval therefore marks her second extension.

The extension was announced on Monday, October 19, 2026, in a State House press release by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

President Tinubu also approved a similar 18-month extension for Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche, Controller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service, whose tenure will now end on May 26, 2028.

According to Onanuga, the approval followed a recommendation by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo. He said it was to address a succession gap in both Services and give their boards enough time to appoint successors.

The statement said, “The approval, which followed a recommendation by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, addressed a succession gap in both Services and would allow the board enough time to appoint successors.”

President Tinubu commended both service chiefs for reforms achieved under their leadership. The statement added, “President Tinubu commended Nwakuche and Nandap for the reforms achieved under their leadership and charged them to consolidate these gains.”

Nandap is the third woman to head the Nigeria Immigration Service.
