Nigeria’s U17 women’s national team, the Flamingos, have been rewarded with N4.5 million for their impressive performance that took them into the final qualifying round of the 2025 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup.

In recognition of the team’s six-goal haul in Ikenne, proprietor of Remo Stars and Beyond Limits Football Club, Hon. Kunle Soname, fulfilled his promise of N750,000 per goal by presenting the cash reward to the players. The gesture came after the Flamingos delivered a dominant display at the Remo Stars Stadium to secure a commanding advantage in the qualifier.

Soname, a known supporter of Nigerian football, has consistently incentivised the young team during their World Cup qualifying campaign. His pledge of N750,000 for every goal scored was triggered by the Flamingos’ six-goal performance, bringing the total reward to N4.5 million.

The Flamingos have been camped at the Remo Stars facilities in Ikenne, Ogun State, as they prepare for the final hurdles to secure a ticket to the World Cup. The team’s commanding first-leg performance in Ikenne put them in strong position to qualify for their eighth FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup appearance.

Head Coach Bankole Olowookere has praised the players for their focus and determination. “Our objective is to win the FIFA World Cup ticket. That is the big motivation. Yet, the monetary rewards have further incentivised my girls to go all out,” he said.

The reward from Hon. Kunle Soname highlights continued private sector support for women’s football in Nigeria, as stakeholders rally behind the Flamingos ahead of the decisive final qualifying round.
