Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has called for calm following a suspected cult killing in Osogbo, urging security agencies to swiftly investigate and apprehend those responsible.
In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, the governor described the incident and the subsequent rampage as condemnable, and debunked insinuations of state government involvement.
“We receive with concern recent suspected cult killing at Osogbo and we call on security agencies to enforce the law and go after the culprits. The killing and the subsequent rampage are condemnable,” the governor was quoted as saying.
He added that cult violence in the state capital must be curtailed immediately to avoid worsening the security situation after recent political violence.
“The incidents of cult violence at Osogbo should be curtailed immediately so as not to complicate the delicate security situation after recent political violence in the state. I call on security agencies to investigate and apprehend those involved in this dastardly act,” he said.
The statement further dissociated the governor and the state government from the killing. It noted that the Accord Party is still mourning several of its members who were killed by political thugs in recent weeks.
“Neither the governor nor his government were involved in these unfortunate incidents. We call on members of the public to ignore fake news and propaganda. The security agencies should investigate and bring those responsible to account,” the statement added.
The governor urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with law enforcement as efforts continue to restore order in Osogbo.
