The Commissioner for Political Affairs in Osun State, Hon. Biyi Odunlade, on Tuesday appeared as guest at the Osun State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Guest Platform in Osogbo.
He called on President Bola Tinubu to intervene in Osun State to ensure that the August 15 governorship election is conducted in a free, fair and peaceful manner.
Hon. Odunlade commended Governor Ademola Adeleke for his patience and peaceful disposition amid the rising political tension in the state.
He blamed the recent wave of conflicts in the state on desperate opposition parties, and challenged them to allow the people to decide through the ballot.
“Let the people speak for themselves with their votes at the elections,” he said.
The commissioner also linked the current crisis in the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, to a deliberate plot to disrupt the August polls. He said the crisis was a calculated attempt to create chaos ahead of the election.
He further accused elements within the security agencies of being compromised, alleging that their conduct was emboldening acts capable of undermining the credibility of the election.
Odunlade urged security agencies to remain neutral and professional, and called on stakeholders to prioritize peace and issue-based politics as the state prepares for the governorship poll.
The Osun NUJ Guest Platform has been hosting political actors and stakeholders ahead of the August 15, 2026 governorship election.
