Governor Adeleke Approves Restoration of Chief Afilaka as Alatorin of Atorin
Osun State Governor Ademola Nurudeen Jackson Adeleke has approved the restoration of Chief Omolola Ibitoye Afilaka as the Alatorin of Atorin in Atakunmosa East Local Government Area of the state. The decision was taken by the State Executive Council after it observed the necessary administrative processes and relevant laws guiding the appointment of traditional rulers in the state. “The Council has also approved the restoration of Chief Omolola Ibitoye Afilaka in Atakunmosa East Local Government as the Alatorin of Atorin,” the state government stated. The approval was part of resolutions reached by the Council, which also confirmed the appointments of Prince Oyeleye Saheed Akorede as the next Gbelepawo of Gbelepawo in Egbedore Local Government and Prince Oyedele Isiaka Olasunkanmi as the next Alajagba of Ajagba. Governor Adeleke, who has been serving as the governor of Osun State since 2022, has taken several decisions relating to traditional institutions in the state. His administration had previously nullified what it described as the illegal installation of a monarch for the Iree community by the last administration of former Governor Adegboyega Oyetola. The state government has maintained that where issues around traditional stools arise, “the status quo remains as the presentation of staff and instrument of appointment… is mere ceremonial and does not in any way invalidate the earlier approval granted… as approved by Governor Ademola Adeleke-led Osun State Executive Council”. With the Council’s latest approval, Chief Omolola Ibitoye Afilaka returns as the Alatorin of Atorin in Atakunmosa East Local Government Area.
