British boxing champion Anthony Joshua, 36, was discharged from hospital Wednesday after a car crash in Nigeria killed two close friends, Sina Ghami and Latif “Latz” Ayodele. Deemed clinically fit, Joshua recuperates at home. The Lexus SUV he rode in collided with a stationary truck on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway Monday, causing minor injuries.
Ghami, Joshua’s decade-long sport rehabilitation coach, and Ayodele, a trainer, died instantly. After hospital, Joshua and his mother visited the funeral home, preparing bodies for repatriation to Britain. Preliminary findings blame overspeeding and wrongful overtaking; a burst passenger-side tyre caused loss of control.
Joshua vacationed in Nigeria post-Miami win vs. Jake Paul. Paul tweeted, “Life is much more important than boxing. Praying for lives lost, AJ, and all impacted.” Nigerian authorities and President Bola Tinubu expressed condolences.
